Concrete Driveways

We’ve put together this step-by-step instruction on installing a concrete driveway to assist you in understanding how our driveway contractors work.

Before Concrete Installation

A working contract will be prepared before proceeding with the project. Once the contract is agreed upon and signed by the property owner and the contractor, the site work can start with preparing the area for the concrete installation. This preparation should involve some, if not all, of the following:

• To expose the dirt, remove anything in the installation area that isn’t necessary (such as grass, boulders, trees, shrubs, construction debris, and even old concrete).
• putting up a sub-base foundation to be ready for the concrete
• The area where the concrete will be laid needs to have the subbase compacted completely.
• A well-prepared subbase increases the likelihood that the concrete will cure properly and reduces the possibility of cracking or moving.

During Concrete Installation

Forms outline the shape of where the concrete will be poured before pouring. The forms are placed as close as possible to the sketch or diagram.

Although concrete forms can be built from wood, metal, or plastic and range in height from 4 inches to several feet, most simple concrete projects use wood forms and are anchored with wooden stakes.

After the concrete has dried, simply screw or nail stakes to the wooden forms to reuse them. We utilise good-condition hardwood forms to generate a proper slope for drainage and tidy corners for a seamless framework. Reusing wooden forms cuts costs.

After compacting the subbase and securing the forms, our contractors will pour the concrete.

Ready-mixed concrete can be purchased and is supplied via a large lorry with a big barrel (concrete mixer) that is slowly rotated to prevent setting. If the construction site is near the concrete delivery vehicle, concrete will stream into the forms. If the installation is far from the truck, wheelbarrows can be used to transport the wet concrete.

We fill the forms with wet concrete to the top. Once poured, move the concrete with shovels, rakes, and special concrete rakes to avoid voids and air pockets while pouring.

After Concrete Installation

After the concrete settles in the forms, finishing begins. Trowels can compact the surface more and level out depressions or high spots to create a smooth surface.

After placement and finishing, concrete curing comes next.  The initial 48 hours of the 28-day cure are important. After 3–4 days, you can walk on your concrete, and after 5–7 days, you can drive and park on it.

Despite its durability, properly poured, finished, and cured concrete should last a lifetime. Even though concrete is typically considered a zero-maintenance product, it can extend its lifespan by employing a decent sealer and sometimes cleaning with soap and water.
